A Dose Administration Aid or DAA (sometimes called a blister pack or Webster Pak® ) organises your medicines to help you take the right pills at the right time. The packs have individual compartments that hold each of your medicines to show you the day and time of the day you should take them.

Your pack is individually prepared for you by our pharmacists, based on information provided by you and your GP. The pharmacist will be happy to answer any questions that you might have about your pack.

You, your GP and our pharmacist work as a team to ensure you get the most out of your pack to help you take your medicines optimally.

We also support eligible DVA patients with a free medication packing service.

We can prepare a Medicine Pack of you at any time, for short periods or ongoing.

Phone the pharmacy at any time to arrange.

A Home Medicine Review is a Medicare funded review of your medicines with an Accredited Pharmacist. One of our Accredited Pharmacists will come to your home, review all of the medications that you take, including those prescribed by your doctor and other natural and complementary products. We will answer any questions that you have, give you some tips on how to improve your medication management and write a report back to you GP with any recommendations we may have.

“The Home Medicines Review (HMR) programme aims to enhance the quality use of medicines and reduce adverse medicines events. This is undertaken through a comprehensive medication review conducted by an accredited pharmacist in the patient’s home.”

The Home Medication Review service is free to eligible patients following a referral from your GP. The Accredited Pharmacist will then schedule an appointment to meet with you and/or your carer at a suitable time, in the comfort of your home.

The objectives of a HMR are to:

  • Achieve safe, effective, and appropriate use of medicines by detecting and addressing medicine- related problems;
  • Improve quality of life and health outcomes using a best practice approach, that involves co-operation between you, your GP, pharmacist, other health professionals;
  • Facilitate cooperative working relationships between members of the health care team in the interests of your health and wellbeing; and,
  • Provide medication information to you and other health care providers involved in your care

If you would like further information about our HMR service, please contact the pharmacy admin@swhpharmacy.com.au

We specialise in the supply of Special Access Scheme (SAS) medicines and have access to a network of Australian importers, as well as directly sourcing from Europe and the United States where required.

About the SAS

The SAS is administered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and allows individual patients to obtain access to drugs not registered for marketing in Australia. These may include medicines that are available in other countries but have not yet been approved here, or that were approved and have been removed for commercial or other reasons.

Approval to access these medicines is required by law, upon application by a doctor. Access is granted on a case-by-case basis depending on patient circumstances.

Patients are grouped into two categories for these applications:

Injectable medicines

As a specialist pharmacy, we keep high cost injectable medicines on hand to make it easy for you to manage your treatment.
In some cases, you may be required to have your medication via infusion at your home, local GP practice or hospital. In these circumstances it may also be critical to maintain the cold chain of the medicine to maintain its integrity and we can assist.

Oral medicines

We also keep a large range of high cost oral medicines on hand.

Specialised Reminder Service

Access to these medicines via the Benefits Scheme can be difficult to manage at times. In some cases, the PBS requires you to have all of your current repeats dispensed before your doctor can write a new script. We can help you manage your scripts and repeats via SMS reminders or through an app on your smart phone. It’s easy and quick to do and we’ll help you set it up in store or over the phone. Our expertise in this area means some specialists have us inform them directly when their patient’s scripts run out.

One of our core services is the onsite preparation of chemotherapy for patients undergoing treatment at the St John of God Bunbury Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

Having an onsite compounding pharmacy enables the preparation of chemotherapy infusions daily, following a thorough review of patient status and blood test results. This approach offers significant advantages, including expedited treatment initiation, greater flexibility in therapy adjustments, and a substantial reduction in medication waste.

Our highly trained specialist staff begin compounding each morning to ensure chemotherapy treatments are prepared for same-day administration. All compounding is conducted within negative-pressure isolators, housed in a purpose-built facility designed to maintain the highest standards of sterility while safeguarding staff from unnecessary exposure to cytotoxic agents.
